Have you heard of the Chinese Wolfberry? Most people are more familiar with its other name: goji.
The Goji berries are cultivated on numerous plantations throughout China. However, the best species come from the vast estates of Zhongning County in the Ningxia Province. Amazingly enough, the inhabitants of the Yellow River have cultivated the berries for over 700 years.
The amount of time and work put into their cultivation make our schooling years look like child’s play.
When plucked fresh off the stalk, the berries look like a tiny bright red rugby ball. When they’re dried, the colours change from a glossy ruby red to a matte reddish-brown. The berries continue to remain sweet even after being dried.
